Communicasia 2009 in Singapore

Communicasia 2009 in Singapore was a good eye-opener for many, perhaps for those who are not very connected to the technological world today. Although I’d urge those who are in the ICT industry to go, I’d also like to reiterate that this annual event may take up a lot of your time — So if you’re keen to attend, make sure you make time for your drop.
One of the most notable resources I acquired from Communicasia was an introduction from Yahoo Singapore’s guys. I wasn’t very fascinated with some of their services however — There aren’t many new things that are introduced; although there were free drinks and popcorn, perhaps.
Alibaba.com took one of the frontliner spaces (just next to the main Hall 3 entrance) and gave out free Newsweek magazines and their ‘premium’ member databases.
For marketers, expositions like this may open up opportunities for data collection – Especially databases that you don’t get everyday. Think of it as a promotion in the mall, like the current MNG sales. Because database and contacts are so important for marketers, expos like Communicasia could provide marketers with certain contacts and resources. For example:
- Contacts to Embassies, Governmental organizations and NGOs (Such as Vietnamese, French and Polish embassy)
- Contacts to auxiliary business industries. (If you’re doing data aggregation, you may find your distributor there, such as Infindo).
- Free database acquisition from directories all in one. (Such as research companies, Yellow Pages and embassies).
- Competitor check. (Such as the Kindle-clone from Korea).
- Futuristic technological auxiliary items such as Alioscopy. (The 3D television).
- Face-to-Face enhanced, quick communication between managerial-level people. (Expositions are often presented by primary, secondary or tertiary decision-makers and/or advisers to the top management).
For those of you out there who’s reading this, thank you for your patronage and hospitality.
